On behalf of Mr. George Ludvig Rode, we are preparing the papers for an application for certificate of naturalization Mr. Rode is a Marine Engineer on board the S. S. "Edendale," with Headquarters at Singapore. He resides on board the ship but is at present in this country resident at 100 Bothwell Street, Glasgow. He has not been here for a year, and intends to return in about eight months to Singapore.

He was born in Norway on the 29th of March 1870. He came to Renfrew, Scotland, in Janua ry 1892 to complete his apprenticeship as an Engineer with Messrs Lobnitz & Co. Limited of Renfrew. He was in Renfrew until 1895. He was sailing as an Engineer with the British firm of Messrs Mac Beth & Gray for about a year. He was then for another year on

He is again resident here for a limited time, and, having acquired all the customs and habits of the British Nation, he wishes to be naturalized.

We write this letter to ascertain, before completing and lodging the Forms, if a modification in the period of residence in the United Kingdom will be accepted in the special circumstances, particularly looking to the fact that the applicant is a Marine Engineer.
